Last Wednesday saw our Historians join Subject Expert, Melanie Lyne, at Sir William Stanier School in Crewe for the day.
History trainee, Victoria Jenkinson stated that “History had a fab day! One of the activities was debating whether Douglas Haig should be considered a hero or a failure based on his efforts during WW1” (A very appropriate topic considering this years anniversary). Vicky went on to say that “we looked at some of the differing views of historians on the subject and then split into girls vs boys for the final heated discussion”. Alethea Byatt (another History trainee) added, “we also focused on literacy in History and how we can implement this in our lessons. We also looked at interpretations and strategies to teach these within our lessons”.
We’d like to thank the ever wonderful, Mel Lyne for her thought provoking session, along with Vicky and Alethea, for their information on the day.
